Wind Mitigation Inspections for $59.99?
$59.99? $79.99? Sadly, you often get what you pay for.
If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. But all too often, homeowners find out too late. Blurry and/or missing photos and improperly filled out reports being rejected, or missed discount credits are all too common.

In the state of Florida, a wind mitigation inspection is one of the most common inspections performed. And for many homeowners, it’s the most important.
You’d be hard-pressed to find an insurance company willing to insure you in the state without a wind mitigation inspection. If there were any willing to do so, that should be a major red flag. An insurance company not wanting to know the risk level of what it’s insuring should cause you to seriously question why that is? (Considering they are in the business of bean counting).
What most clients think of when it comes to a wind mitigation inspection is the discounts they’ll receive to reduce their insurance premium. This is because homeowners insurance premiums have skyrocketed in recent years across the state. However, there are numerous other benefits to a wind mitigation inspection. About a dozen of those benefits are listed here: Benefits of a Wind Mitigation Inspection.
Of all the types of inspections out there, a wind mitigation inspection is one that you do not want to skimp on.
Most experienced and established inspectors across the state charge between $100 and $150, with the majority being around $125.
A price well under the industry standard — like $59.99 or even a bargain basement rate of $79.99 — for someone to:
- – climb around in a 150°F attic.
- – crawl through blown-in insulation for a distance of 30 feet to an exterior wall.
- – on their hands and knees, spread 2 feet apart.
- – balancing on 1.5″ beams with 3 feet of headroom.
- often contorting one’s body through odd geometric shapes in order to get to where photos are needed.

…seems extremely questionable.
And that’s not figuring in travel time, photo editing. It’s also before factoring in typical business expenses, insurance, gas, phone, electric, internet, website, licensing, continuing education, support staff payroll, and still having time to write a high-quality, accurate report with clear, high-resolution images. Realistically speaking, it seems unfeasible to do so without taking shortcuts somewhere.
Now not all inspections are that difficult, but many are. And the inspector never really knows what they are in for until they stick their head up into the attic access. Even with an “average” inspection, it still almost always involves at least “some” exposure time in a hot Florida attic usually between 120°F to 130°F.
There are exceptions to heavily discounted rates though, for example: if the discounted price if for an update on the same property that was previously inspected. For those, much of the leg work is already completed, and the inspector is already familiar with the property, typically making the inspection less labor-intensive.
